Fran Philip has more than 30 years experience in specialty retailing. She spent sixteen years of her career at L.L. Bean, the last nine serving as the company’s Chief Merchandising Officer, overseeing all product design, product development, merchandising and creative. Under Fran’s leadership, the company launched two sub brands, Freeport Studio and L.L. Bean Signature. Prior to L.L.Bean, Fran was a founding partner of Calyx & Corolla, an innovative fresh flower catalog. She also worked for The Nature Company, Williams-Sonoma and The Gap.
Fran retired from L.L. Bean in 2011 and today sits on the boards of public companies Vera Bradley and Pacific Sunwear and private companies Crane, Inc., Lee Auto, Regent Holdings, Totes Isotoner, and Sea Bags. She previously served on the boards of A.T.Cross and L.L.Bean. Fran also works as an industry executive for Freeman-Spogli, a private equity firm specializing in retail and consumer products.
Fran holds an MBA from Harvard University and a BA from Bowdoin College. She lives in South Freeport with her husband George and various four footed friends. She enjoys skiing, kayaking, bicycling, boating and traveling.
